Training and Learning Manager

This very hands-on role reports directly to the newly appointed Head of HR and will focus on all things learning and development. Your main task is to elevate the skills of the entire team (headcount of 400+ in the UK) by creating and implementing the company’s first learning, training and development strategy.

You will have the support of 2 HR admins – but they will not be reporting into you directly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement the Training and Learning and Development strategy.
  • Manage the training budget.
  • Coordinate logistics for training events and sessions.
  • Ensuring every member of the company is up to date with necessary training, and any skills gaps are addressed with a Personal Development Plan
  • Working with senior members of the business to figure out skills gaps and how to close them.
  • Implementing new systems and processes.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and guidance to empower employees’ professional development.
  • Applying for and securing funding and development awards.
  • Creating training activities that are compliant with law and company policy.
  • Engaging with and managing third parties.
  • Help us become the employer of choice within our industry.
  • Manage the apprentice, work experience and graduate programmes, making sure that they
  • Work with and help develop the HR Coordinator to maintain meticulous records of training activities.
  • Creation of training content and resources.
  • Foster connections with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Take charge of the training module in our HR system and maintain the training matrix.
  • Assess framework and standard qualifications.
  • Shape succession plans for all team members, identifying future leaders, and boosting employee retention and engagement.
  • Assist the Head of HR in creating an amazing onboarding experience.
  • Collaborate with key contacts at affiliated educational institutions.
  • Conduct practical assessments of graduate, apprentice, and trainees.
  • Provide metrics and reports to the HoHR.

You Will Have

  • Proven track record in a training and development role, preferably within the engineering and/or construction sector.
  • Adept in various training methods, including coaching, workshops, in-house and online training, mentoring, and e-learning programs.
  • Ideally CIPD level 3 qualified or similar, or the willingness to pursue certification.
  • Previous experience working with graduates, apprentices, trainees, and work experience placements.
  • Safeguarding experience or qualification is a valuable asset.
